Permanent Tooth Knocked Out
Find the tooth if at all possible. When handling the tooth, hold it by the crown and not the root. If dirty, rinse the tooth with water ONLY. Do NOT try to clean the tooth using soap, and do not scrub or otherwise handle the tooth unnecessarily.
Make an effort to reinsert the tooth into the tooth socket. Then hold the tooth steady by biting on it with gauze, napkin or towel. If it is impossible for you to insert the tooth into the socket, place the tooth in a cup of milk to transport it. If no milk is available, have your child spit in a cup and transport it in the saliva.
It’s important that the patient see the dentist AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Time is of the essence, and quick action can mean the difference between saving the tooth and losing it. Don’t forget to bring the tooth!
